Benin’s Law No. 2024-31 allows people of African descent around the world to reclaim their ancestral connection by obtaining Beninese citizenship.

Before we begin your review, please prepare clear scans or photos of the documents below.

1. Valid ID*
- Passport, driver’s license, or national ID card
2. Criminal Record
- Recent background check from your country of residence
3. Proof of African Descent*
Examples (one or more):
- DNA results (Ancestry, African Ancestry, etc.)
- Ancestor birth or death certificates
- Family tree chart
- Notarized affidavits confirming lineage
4. Proof of Occupation
Examples :
- Employment certificate or contract
- Business registration or self-employment certificate
- Student ID or enrollment letter
- Pension or retirement statement
5. Proof of Address*
Examples:
- Bank or credit card statement
- Utility bill (electricity, water, internet, phone)
- Residence certificate or lease agreement
- Optional Supporting Documents
6. Other Documents (Optional)
Any additional papers that support your case (up to 5 documents), such as:
- Extra family records
- Old IDs or school records
- Community or church records, etc.
- What You Can Safely Redact (Hide)
- If you want to be cautious with your personal data, you may black out or blur:
- Passport / ID numbers
- Social Security / national insurance numbers
- Account numbers on bank or credit card statements
- Certificate or registration serial numbers
- QR codes and barcodes
- Please make sure the following always remain clearly visible:
- Your full name
- Date of birth
- Address (for proof of residence)
- Document type and issuing authority
- Dates of issue and expiry, where applicable
